For visitors coming by car:
East Oxford is a Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) with bollards to control the flow of traffic in our area. If you are driving to Irving Gallery, you can only access Essex Street if you approach from the Cowley Road end of the Magdalen Road (once you turn into Magdalen Road, Essex Street is the second street on the left). If you approach from the Iffley Road, you won’t be able to access Essex Street, but you can get very close, and in that case you might like to park on nearby Hertford Street (parallel to Essex Street), Barnet Street, Silver Road, or on Magdalen Road, and walk around the corner. We have residents’ parking restrictions in place, but there are a few two- and three-hour parking spaces close by.

Thornhill Park & Ride: If coming in from the M40, you could park at Thornhill Park & Ride, take the bus to St Clements, then walk (about 15-20 minutes), or take one of the buses up the Cowley Road to Magdalen Road East.

Redbridge Park & Ride: If coming in from the A34, you could park at Redbridge, then either it is a 35-minute walk direct to the gallery, or take the bus to town, and out again on the no. 1 or no. 5 bus down the Cowley Road, as before.

More info about parking in Oxford: https://www.oxford.gov.uk/parking-oxford/parking-locations

By train: From the station, you can pick up the no.1 or no. 5 bus just outside the station, and get off at the Magdalen Road East stop on the Cowley Road. Then it will be a short walk of a few minutes to the gallery.
